Mike Pahan

August 28, 1957 - February 25, 2021

The Class of '75 has lost a good one. I'm sad to report that Mike passed away from his battle with cancer. For the past 25 years he lived outside of Seattle and is survived by his mom and two sisters.

He was a good athlete, had a quick smile and sense of humor. He was one of my best friends going back to first grade and the 'trouble' we got into are now great stories that get better every year. He will be missed.

Mike, of Indianola, Washington, passed away peacefully at home after fighting cancer for a year. Mike was born August 28, 1957 to Joseph and Joanne Mermod Pahan Stevenson. He graduated from South Pasadena High School. Went to UPS, ASU but decided he liked the construction business.

He has two sisters, Laura (Don) Martin and Cindy Pahan (Tony) Balsz (SPHS '72). He was preceded in death by his brother Mark Pahan (SPHS '80).

Mike loved sports and was a track star in high school...great anchorman! He has friends from grade school that remained like brothers to him until the day he died. Mike was known for his quick wit and fun personality. He will be missed by many.

Mike lived on the corner of Fletcher and Oak Street, one long block away from my house. He was a good friend to Craig Cook and Arthur Turray, who also lived close by on Fletcher and Oak. The summer of 1972 was a special one for us. Mike and Craig offered to come over to help clean up from the 9th grade graduation party I had. The "clean up " evolved into another afternoon party. Throughout that summer, the three of them would usually end up in my pool in the afternoon. We enjoyed many laughs, as we played water volleyball and ate watermelon under an umbrella  We never had another summer again like that but as we would pass in the hallways during our high school years, there was an unspoken appreciation for the special summer we shared together.

While in college, I walked into a new transfer's room to welcome her and much to my surprise, there was a photo of her sitting on Mike Pahan's lap! I asked her what she was doing on Mike's lap and how she knew him. Mike had been her date to an event while they were both at the University of Puget Sound. Small world. That was the start of a lifelong friendship, all because of our connection to Mike.
